Affiliate Marketing My Chosen Path
Hi I am Thomas Northrop. I started trying to make money on the Internet back in May of 2000 as an Herbalife Associate. At that time I did not know much about Affiliate Marketing, in fact I did not even know that I was an Affiliate Marketer.
All I knew was that weight loss was big business and that Herbalife had a pretty good line of weight loss products. I actually lost 42 pounds using them.
Not wanting to turn this into an Herbalife commercial, I am no longer part of that organization, but I did learn some very valuable lessons from that beginning.
Lessons that still hold true today, things that were taught to me by my sponsor.
Back then the Internet was just beginning to be seen as a serious place to market products. People were getting used to the idea of shopping on line. That was one of the reasons that I was looking for a business that I could use the Internet to promote.
So I received by first lesson on Internet Marketing by filling in a form on the Internet that said something like.
Would you like to make money with your computer? Fill in the form below.
I filled it in, and before you know it there was a phone call from the guy that ended up being my sponsor in Herbalife.
So I spent a bunch of money and set my self up with a web form system that supplied fresh leads as often as I could afford to buy them.
I proceeded to build a Herbalife business getting these leads to also become associates. Everything was going fine, I was building a very nice downline of associate. Only one problem. I was not making any money.
That lead me to my first valuable lesson in business of any sort. For money to be made a product must be sold. It does not matter how large your organization is. The bottom line is that one is just as good as 1000 if noone is making any sales.
The whole system I was using was geared to adding associates and not geared to training them to sell or use the products. It was doomed from the beginning. By the time I realized the flaw in the system I thought it was to late. I was out of money and pretty downhearted over the whole thing.
I really did nothing after that for quite a while until about 2007 when I ran across a guy named Michael Cheaney. I decided to take his Internet Marketing course called the Golden Thread.
Michael got me up and rolling again. After that I took some other courses from some pretty big time Internet Marketers. Alex Jeffreys, Tellman, and Russel Brunson to name a few.
Picking up little gold nuggets from each of them I have put together a nice little business based on Affilate Marketing.
